Say hello to Tools Sound
You’re sleeping. Suddenly the alarm goes off. You wake up, switch it off and run to the shower. Meanwhile your coffee machine is buzzing with that warm smell of the morning coffee. You’re getting dressed for work while there’s surrounding traffic coming in from the window, or birds singing, or passing emergency vehicles. Sound is everywhere. We are all a part of it, and we have learnt to become a part of this environment.
The concept of soundscapes was popularized by Raymond Murray Schafer, a Canadian composer and environmentalist. He founded the World Soundscape Project (WSP) at Simon Fraser University in the 1960s, which launched the modern study of acoustic ecology.
Through his body of work, he studied the relationship between humans and their environment which can take on many forms, whether in music, noise pollution, environmental efforts, or healthcare.
The sounds we hear bring about emotions in us, they can make us feel sick, happy, inspired, calm, agitated and so on.
